Nick Grier Photography builds time lapse housings for construction, industry, and nature monitoring applications.

Because we build each time lapse housing to spec for in-house client driven projects, we can customize them for each project. Weatherproof, solar powered and self contained. Our housings are able to be installed in virtually any location. They can also house nearly any DSLR package, including full-side professional bodies. Because we build them to your spec, they can be remotely monitored, have a live video feed, upload images to the web, or simply save to a memory card.

Our cameras can run for day, months, or years

Long term time lapse photography can be utilized for documenting construction progress, demolition, vegetation growth, ice movement, and any other activity where regular pictures are required over long time periods. As a result of this variety, intervals need to be programmed from seconds to hours or days. Typical applications require pictures every 4-5 minutes during daylight work hours, and result in a 2-3 minute finished time lapse video. Much longer term applications can run for several months, seasons, or even years. Because we program each time lapse for the specific project it will be install on. We are able to insure important work is captured at an interval that best shows it.

See our Video Production page for our other video services or our Cascade Camera Works YouTube to see more of our video content. Because we are a full service production house, we can handle construction documentation, regular photos and video, Drone Photography or traditional Aerial Photography. We focus on high quality content, and we have specialized in strictly commercial clients for over twelve years.

  • How much does a time lapse cost?
A: Every situation is different and it’s very difficult to apply a general cost or rule to all cases. This is like saying “how much does a car cost?” It varies. Cost depends on your requirements, the duration, your timeline, and how much equipment we need to shoot your time lapse correctly. We have a set fee for installing the camera, and then a weekly fee for how long it will run. We do our absolute best to work within your budget, efficiently, to get you results you can be proud to show off for years to come. Have any questions or want a quote for your specific project? • We don’t have power available onsite, do you use batteries?
A: Nearly every time lapse we install is outdoors, so we build every housing to use solar charged large capacity battery packs. We don’t need external power supplies, and can run for months and months on the power the sun provides every day, rain or shine.
      • We don’t have a location to mount the camera, can you make one?
A: Absolutely. We can affix the time lapse camera to any existing structure, pole, railing. We can also fabricate and install a temporary guy-wired pole to mount on.
        • Can you shoot in 4K?
A: While we can master and finish content in UHD or DCI 4k, there is often no need to do so, and it just takes up more time, storage, and computing power to process. A vast majority of the content online and broadcast is 1080p HD or less. Our standard workflow is to shoot original content in 4k or higher, and edit and deliver in high bit-rate HD. This allows for more flexibility in post, makes your videos load faster online, and looks great on all devices. We are happy to work around your individual requirements if you need higher or lower resolution delivered content, because everyone’s needs are unique.
        • Can you also shoot aerial footage?
A: We specialize in high quality aerial footage! We work with both drones and helicopters, and as a result are able to achieve the results needed for each specific project. We are fully insured and FAA licensed commercial operators. Check out our Drone Photography page for more examples of drone photo and video work.
          • Can we see the photos every day?
A: If you spec out a requirement to have photos available daily or weekly, we can build in a cellular connection that will upload photos on set intervals to the web. Otherwise, we typically have the camera record to a memory card and change it out occasionally.
            • Will the camera be okay out in the rain?
A: Yes, all out time lapse housings are totally waterproof and do just fine in the heat or cold. Occasional rain on the lens port may be visible, but does not affect the end results.
              • How long can a time lapse run for?
A: Anywhere from a few hours to many months or years. We use very reliable Canon camera bodies, redundant power supplies, and 4x safety factors in calculating solar power needs. Quality housings keep the camera and electronics dry and clean for very long term reliability. Typically the only limiting factor is memory storage, but even that can be avoided by uploading images to the web as they are acquired.
