Frequently Asked Real Estate Photography Questions

  • Can you just Photoshop that out?
Photoshop is an amazing tool with a lot of power, and I use it for every image I deliver. However, nothing replaces making sure the location is photo ready for photography when we arrive. If you would like Photoshop to clean the floors, put boxes away, mow the lawn or add cars to your parking lot, we would be happy to accommodate you for an additional fee. Of course, we do our absolute best to work around conditions on-site, including minor rearranging and adjustments to make your photos look the best they can.
    • What if the weather is bad on the day of our shoot?
In the event that the weather is less than desirable on the day of your scheduled shoot, you will be given the opportunity to reschedule for the next available shoot date. Should you choose to proceed with the shoot as scheduled, regardless of the weather, please understand that listed pricing does not include weather-related edits. If we absolutely must shoot on a rainy or cloudy day, you would be amazed at what some advanced post production can do. Sky replacement can produce 100% seamless results, but keep in mind that additional processing time is extra and not included on an original quote.
      • What makes your architectural and real estate photography different than others?
There are several things… I don’t rely on HDR {High Dynamic Range} photography for my imagery. HDR photography uses multiple exposures of the same image capturing the highlight and shadow areas and then are fused together using automated software. This can lead to irregular color shifts, odd contrast, and create halos at the edges of high contrast areas. All of these make fine architecture and interiors look cartoonish, and does not accurately convey how a property actually looks to the eye. With over a decade of photographic experience producing high caliber commercial imagery, you’ll receive magazine quality architectural and interior photography images.
All of my images are carefully and professionally lit using a combination of constant and flash lighting. Interior colors are accurate, window views are maintained and skies are not overexposed. In addition, I personally retouch all images to maintain consistency. We shoot real estate interiors, exteriors, as well as aerials. While we often use drones, we are not limited by their ability to fly certain distances. We shoot many large scale commercial real estate projects from a helicopter to ensure all required imagery can be attained.

        • Can you shoot in 4K?
While we can master and finish content in UHD or DCI 4k, there is often no need to do so, and it just takes up more time, storage, and computing power to process. A vast majority of the content online and broadcast is 1080p HD or less. Our standard workflow is to shoot original content in 4k, and edit and deliver in high bit-rate HD. This allows for more flexibility in post, makes your videos load faster online, and looks great on all devices. We are happy to work around your individual requirements if you need higher or lower resolution delivered content, because everyone’s needs are unique.

        • Can you shoot aerial footage?
Nick Grier Photography specializes in high quality aerial footage! We work with both drones and helicopters, and as a result are able to achieve the results needed for each specific project. Our business is fully insured and an FAA licensed commercial operator. Check out our Drone Photography page for more examples of drone photo and video work.
          • If I want to make a change after the project is approved, will there be additional costs?
We will make every attempt to finish a project within time constraints and on budget. However, changes out of our control or prompted by additional client requests will incur additional fees.
            • Who owns the footage you shoot for me?
When we are hired to produce a project for our clients, our clients own full rights to all FINAL and FINISHED photo and video projects produced by Nick Grier Photography. We retain the original RAW footage unless client chooses to purchase rights to original media as well. Additionally, we retain the right to use footage for marketing and stock use.

              • What should I expect in terms of turnaround time?

Real Estate Clients: We understand that you need to bring your client’s property to market as soon as possible. Images from my residential real estate photography shoots will be ready for you within 48 hours from the day of the shoot. Images will be sent to you via Dropbox.
Commercial Projects: Depending on the scope of your shoot and how much post-production and retouching is required, your images will be sent to you via Dropbox within 3-7 days of shoot completion.
